Political Changes in Syria
For Syrian asylum seekers in Germany, the situation has become noticeably more precarious since the end of 2024. Since the fall of the Assad regime, the previously almost guaranteed protection status for Syrians has been called into question. Currently, new asylum applications are being reviewed individually and are being rejected with increasing frequency.
This political shift directly impacts our daily lives: All of our Syrians are very worried and uncertain about whether they will have a future in Germany. We witness firsthand how intensively they are striving for successful integration, working on their German language skills, and reliably and effectively helping us at the Kornhaus to settle in Germany. We are trying to support our Syrians as best we can in this tense situation and encourage them to continue with their integration program, no matter what happens – learning good German, completing internships, and looking for apprenticeships.
Our Syrians have become very dear to us, and we sincerely hope they will be able to build stable lives for themselves.
